How does one ready for a virtual fashion show? With a beauty look splashy enough to pull focus from afar, naturally. For Dior’s pre-fall 2021 men’s show, creative director Kim Jones set aside plans for a Beijing show to instead host a livestreamed video and a screening party—and muse Bella Hadid opted for a beauty look defined by washes of roseate pink paired with a punkish peroxide pixie.
“Bella’s face reminds me of an illustration and that’s what I was emulating, those ’80s female illustrations with gorgeous makeup,” said makeup artist Sam Visser of the look, which featured saturated dustings of taupes, mauves, and pink pulled generously over cheekbones and smoked lids, rather than the bright reds and hot pinks oft associated with that ilk of image.
To create Hadid’s perfectly painted pink lip, Visser used Rouge Dior Satin Lip Balm as a foundation. “I love the texture of the balm for its emollients but still retaining that beautiful satin finish,” said Visser. “It kept her lips hydrated for hours and created the perfect base to apply lipliner and lipstick.” A precise application of Rouge Dior 414 in Saint Germain edged by Dior Contour 532 in Jungle Brown made for a pout that played up the look as a whole through shape and hue. And the finisher? A trompe-l’œil bleached shag marked by deep roots and piecey, puckish texture. Just add a bit of sleek onyx suiting and you have a moment worthy of a front row—even if said seat is a metaphorical one.
