As news that Joe Biden had won the 2020 Presidential election broke this morning, a tense week which saw the nation waiting on tenterhooks finally reached its conclusion. And of course, Twitter was quickly aflame with reactions and responses to the historic result, ranging from relief to joy to humor. (As Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Veep astutely pointed out, “Madam Vice President is no longer a fictional character.”)
First, the man himself took to Twitter to celebrate his win, adding that he was “honored” to have been chosen to lead the country and that he will strive to be a “president for all Americans.” His message was quickly followed by congratulations from his running mate Kamala Harris, former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, among many others.
Arguably the most moving reactions on Twitter came not from prominent political voices or celebrities, however, but instead the snapshots from cities and towns around the U.S. where a palpable sense of elation and relief erupted into cheers, whistles, and cars honking their horns in celebration. Here, find the best reactions to Joe Biden’s historic win on Twitter.
America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country.
The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not.
I will keep the faith that you have placed in me. pic.twitter.com/moA9qhmjn8

This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.pic.twitter.com/Bb9JZpggLN

Today is a good day.
It’s easier to be a parent this morning.
Being a good person MATTERS.
This is a big deal.
It’s easy to do it the cheap way and get away with stuff — but it comes back around.
