Jessica Alba and Gwyneth Paltrow Were On Hand for Baby2Baby’s Charity Drive-Thru Event

Jessica Alba and Gwyneth Paltrow Were On Hand for Baby2Baby’s Charity Drive-Thru Event

Yesterday, Baby2Baby, an L.A.-based nonprofit organization that provides children in need with essential items, hosted a drive-thru distribution event in California in partnership with Frame. The organization marked the holiday season by distributing supplies to impoverished families, including winter jackets, blankets, soap, shampoo, diapers, food, toys, gifts, and more. Families could drive up and collect safely from a distance, while a number of stars—including Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Garner—were on location to hand out items.

“Since the pandemic, we’ve been hit up by a lot of families who need food support,” says Alba, who is on the board of directors for Baby2Baby. “There are a lot of families who are now finding themselves in poverty that never were before, because there’s so much joblessness. They’re just trying to keep the lights on this year.” Since being founded 2011, Baby2Baby has handed out over 100 million essential items to families, but this year alone, it’s expected to have distributed over 50 million items to nearly one million children.

This weekend’s event, aided by the presence of star power, was a clear success. Hundreds of families drove by at yesterday’s event, says Alba, with rides provided by Lyft for families who don’t have cars. Though this time of year certainly puts extra financial pressure onto families, Alba stresses that these services are needed all year. “This is a year-round need for people, not just around the holiday season,” she says. “But especially during a pandemic and during the holiday season, you do feel that strain, and you feel you can really see the disparity between the haves and have nots.” She adds that Baby2Baby has been hosting these drives monthly, because “there’s so many families that need these types of items.” In August, Baby2Baby also hosted a drive-thru event with a surprise appearance from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, where they handed out school supplies to students ahead of the new school year.

You can find more info on how to be a part of a future event or donate on Baby2Baby’s website, or “follow Baby2Baby on social media, share out events, or just spread the word on what we do,” says Alba. “These times can be so hard on people emotionally. We just try to bring some delight to their life.”
